Biography

Monal Velangi, MSc, Nutritionist (Clinical and Sports), CDE, Mumbai, India.

With her passion for learning and nutrition, she earned her Bachelors, Masters and is pursuing her PhD (Home Science) - Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics from College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan, University of Mumbai. Her research area: Vitamin D, functional food and bone health. She achieved 1st Rank in Nutrition and Exercise for Fitness and Distinction in Food Processing and Preservation - Mumbai University courses; completed a CDE Course (National Diabetes Educator Program), Dr. Mohan’s Academy, International Diabetes Federation and SAM management workshop, UNICEF and SNDT University. She was also selected for the International Nutrition Research Methods collaborative course by St. John’s Research Institute, Harvard University and Tufts University.

Currently working as a Dietitian - K.J. Somaiya Hospital and Research Centre and attached to Somaiya Super Speciality Hospital, Visiting faculty for Sports Nutrition Masters Program Nirmala Niketan, University of Mumbai. She has donned different hats - a Visiting faculty - DY Patil University and Griffith University collaborative and B.M.N. College, SNDT University, lifestyle coaching - GOQii, a wearable fitness technology, Nutrition consultant for curriculum development, lecturing and evaluation, nutrition planning of their celebrity clients- Academy, Core wellness, Mumbai. During her graduation, she worked as an Intern in Diet, King Edward Memorial Hospital and in Clinical Research, Marico Industries, Mumbai.

Her team achieved 1st prize in Kellogg’s Food product development and promotion competition. Women Graduates Union, affiliated to International Federation of Women, awarded her a scholarship for PhD researcch and the Scholar of the Year award, 2016 during Centenary year. Recently, she was awarded as a runner up for Best E-poster award at the National Conference BPCON 2017, Indian Society of Hypertension. She was declared as a runner up for Wimpfheimer Guggenheim Award - International Exchange in Nutrition, Dietetics and Management and AIND Professional Development Student Stipend Award, for which she would be recognized at FNCE 2017, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Centenary year, Chicago, Illinois, USA.

She has presented her work at National and International Conferences, has been an expert speaker- Nutrition at programs for Indian Association of Physiotherapists, Nestle India - Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon Expo, Poddar Ayurveda Medical College, Management Institutes. She was also involved in nutrition education programs in urban, rural areas, communities and churches, in nutrition counselling for trusts, corporates, banks; judged nutrition recipe competitions for Bombay Port Trust Hospital, Indian Women’s Scientist Association and other communities.

She believes, “Holistic health is the New wealth.” She enjoys adventures, traveling, hiking, dancing, listening to music and reading
